The Blog From Mars

The Blog From Mars

A Chicago music blog covering the scene from the view of musicians buried in it.

ABOUT THE BLOG FROM MARS

Frustrated with lack of local attention for local bands, The Blog From Mars was started by me, Graham from The Thons after a "if they're not gonna write about us, we'll write about us" attitude. Over the last couple of years the blog has expanded to include a lot of random stuff and is now focused on becoming a Chicago music blog that writes about the Chicago music scene from the dirt floor up.

Chicago Band Highlight: Nude Intruder

Sometime around mid-2013 is when I first heard Nude Intruder. They were sludgey, kinda demented sounding psycho-grunge / garage rock. And their name was awesome. A few months later we were playing a show with them and mutual pals The Muzzlers at The Beat […]

david bowie RIP with wings from glass spider tour

Remembering David Bowie

My cat’s name is Bowie – a strange honor bestowing the thin white duke’s name on a fat black cat. I woke up at 4:00 AM today to the sounds of a hairball working it’s way out of his system and onto, probably, the […]

Production Company Twin Visuals launches “Foam Palace” Music Video Sessions

Earlier today I was avoiding doing work per usual by hanging out on my local Facebook corner when out of nowhere something crept in my feed. It was cool. It was catchy. It was Soddy Daisy on the YouTubes. Soddy Daisy is a group of […]

Record Store Day 2015 came and went and we were fielding a lot of questions as a band. People were wondering why we weren’t playing a Record Store Day show and if we had merch available in stores. To be honest, we dropped the […]

Flesh Panther’s pre-order debut LP on Dumpster Tapes site

I’ve been lucky enough to catch Chicago punks Flesh Panthers live. Months ago I was bumbling around town and stumbled in on the last 10 minutes of their set at Bric-a-brac records. It was without a doubt the highlight of my night, soon to be […]

The current state of “Hot Fun”

Last year around this time we were working on “Thirty Foot Snake.” We had just finished a string of shows and played live on WZRD which was an experience to say the least. I thought we could jam practice and recording into December and […]

Milwaukee Band Highlight: Piles

I was introduced to Piles through a fan of ours in Milwaukee that put both of our songs in skate videos. As soon as I heard them I knew we needed to jam.

“You’re Way Too Loud!” MAMA at Gallery Cabaret (Video)

Last night we played our third show with MAMA this year. They’re a really fun band to see. A little Thin Lizzy, a little Misfits. Classic vibes with kick ass melodies. While I was shooting the shit with the lead dude Chris he reminded […]

New Punk Bands In Chicago (2014)

2014 has been an awesome year for new punk bands, specifically in Chicago. I don’t know if it’s cause I’m biased and digging into the local scene more or what. But I can’t help feeling that we’re in a new Golden Age of music […]
